hija de flores / daughter of flowers

Extracted DNA and plant matter in resin

hija de flores / daughter of flowers is an installation composed of floral DNA representations that investigate the concept of botanical wisdom, or the practice of slowly unearthing bits of inherited knowledge that have been passed down generations of women as tools for healing and survival.

This installation was the inaugural exhibition in the solar-powered @ReallySmallMuseum_atx on the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail. Supported in partnership by The Trail Conservancy and The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places (AIPP). Austin, Texas.
